About COLLOQUIUM

The idea for a Cistercian journal to connect our Asian communities emerged during a meeting between some sisters from the Abbey of Our Lady of Matutum and M. Eleanor Campion, a member of the Abbot General’s Council, during her July 2024 visit. As in the Middle Ages, exchanges between abbeys (colloquia) maintained the vitality of the charism, we hope that this journal will be a means of exchanging ideas and contributions to sustain a unified vision and foster friendship.

Issue N.1/ Prayer

St. Lutgarde & the Sacred Heart

Few saints in the history of the Church show the ideal of vicarious suffering in reparation for sin more than St. Lutgarde. Vicarious suffering and reparation are the core of the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Lutgarde’s story may strengthen the resolve of many who daily consecrate themselves to the hearts of Jesus and Mary to participate in the work of redemption.

Seeking God in Scripture

Dom Steele Hartmann, Tarrawara

Our obedience to God’s Word is not so much about subservience, but more about testimony and revelation. I obey what I hear in a communal context, such that together we manifest The Word we hear, the Word-made-flesh-in-our-midst.

Praying an Icon

Sr. Marie Rafael, Matutum

The experience of writing the icon taught me that true artistry lies not in mastery, but in surrender – surrender to the tradition, to the community, and to the divine presence that whispers guidance in the silence of the heart.
